Research & Planning 6: Digi pack research
Hopefully from the research we will gain a better understanding of the uses of a digipak and we hope to create the design for one that not only highlights the qualities of our artists but also looks great and worthy for purchase.

Research & Planning 2: Music Video Theory Research (Applying Goodwin's music video Analysis)
I conducted some research on common themes and ideals that are in music videos for the up and coming one my group will be making and I came across Goodwin's Music video analysis and these were the frequent 5 pointers that were covered:
1.The music videos demonstrate genre characteristics for example a stage performance in a metal video.

2. There s a relationship between lyrics and visuals (Illustrative perhaps the acting is reflecting the lyrics sung in i.e a love song)

3. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artists and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style)

4. There is frequently references to the notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body. (the camera simply cuts up the women into parts and the male views can gain pleasure from that 'male gaze')

Some could say that female artists could gain superiority from that and use it to their advantage with their mv's like above with "beyonces' who run the world."
5. There is often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc kill bill ref to bruce lee in film of death, taylor swift bad blood)
What I've learnt from this:
As you can see from my post that one common artists seems to be using these conventions consistently and that is Beyonce and what I believe to be a key common contributor to her success is the way in which her music videos stick to these ideas yet still provide a way for her to demonstrate her musicality within her music videos Even in her most outstanding music videos these conventions are held yet we are still able to perceive it as a 'Beyonce music video' And I plan to keep this theory in mind when I plan our music video with my group and try to focus as much on the artist as well as any storytelling that will take place within the music video so that it doesn't stray from present our artist in its own theme.
Thanks for reading!

Research & Planning 1: Marketing and branding
What is Marketing?
Marketing is the process of which a company sets out to publicise and make known to the public their product/brand through advertisements and other means in order to gain publicity and gain profit from the increase in potential consumers. the process by which a product is brought to market to a specific target audience.
What is branding?
The creation of a symbol or unique identifier for a brand such as a logo or a slogan that is recognisable by the public of that specific brand. (icon)
The process of developing a product into a concept.
Brand identity:
What I've learnt from this:
When i plan to develop my own artist I will make sure that there is a consistency in the colour palette of the branding of my artist as well as keeping the typography the same so that it is distinct about who my artist is and there is a sort of 'symbol' that our artist is identified by and even better 'if less is more' and using too many effects excessively could alter our branding of our artist.

Brand identity:
- Logo
- Typography (comic sans)
- Graphics
- Colour palette
- Imagery
From a business point of view: Consistent, strategic branding leads to a strong brand equity.
(the added value your brand brings to the product you are selling that allows you to charge more)
Consistent branding = customer trust/following= sales £££
Building perceptions, persuading people to view your artist in a certain way. Through the use of logos and the artists public interactions with their fans and during events.
Case Study: James Bay
The focus is on a simple 'back to basics' style which gives way to provide thoughtful meaning.
This is the way in which he has been constructed resonates a calm and relaxed style which the audience can relate to and desire. Consumers buy into this lifestyle which makes it aspirational
The consistency in his publicity imagery displays him never looking straight at the camera. It is marketed that way on purpose to draw the audience into 'his own world'.
The same colour palette shown in his poster advertisements and mirrored in his album covers and music videos.
